Gouache, watercolour, and coloured inks. I really don't know how to use gouache very well. I used coloured inks for the gold in the background. I had a lot of problems trying to bring this piece together. I need more practice with painting and working with traditional mediums. It is really hard since I usually have to go through three or four drafts before I can paint. I wanted to start with the colour first before putting on the black lines like I usually do but it was impossible with this piece so I drew the black lines first. Maybe it was better uncoloured...
I painted this for an art show in Oakland in April 2009.
Even if you did struggle with the media, I still really love this! <3 It has wonderful motion, like all your pieces usually do, and it looks very clean, which I find amazing considering you drew the black lines first. Not to mention the subject of this piece is awesome. I love giant squids : ). You're always so inspirational T^T
Awwwh man, these colors are just beautiful! I think you did a fantastic job, darling! Ahaha, your designs and concepts are just so distinct and brilliant! Gorgeous!
Thank you! I'm really glad that you got a chance to see it in person. It is so hard to scan in works done with traditional mediums especially when they have gold paint in them. D: It looks better under actual sunlight.

We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
