Artist's Comments

Gouache, watercolour, and coloured inks. I really don't know how to use gouache very well. I used coloured inks for the gold in the background. I had a lot of problems trying to bring this piece together. I need more practice with painting and working with traditional mediums. It is really hard since I usually have to go through three or four drafts before I can paint. I wanted to start with the colour first before putting on the black lines like I usually do but it was impossible with this piece so I drew the black lines first. Maybe it was better uncoloured...

I painted this for an art show in Oakland in April 2009.

Even if you did struggle with the media, I still really love this! <3
It has wonderful motion, like all your pieces usually do, and it looks very clean, which I find amazing considering you drew the black lines first.
Not to mention the subject of this piece is awesome. I love giant squids : ).
You're always so inspirational T^T

Thank you! I'm really glad that you got a chance to see it in person. :-) It is so hard to scan in works done with traditional mediums especially when they have gold paint in them. D: It looks better under actual sunlight.
