Artist's Comments

This is the cover for third issue of comic project I'm working on called Open Spaces and Closed Places. It's been three years since I last screenprinted anything so it wasn't perfect- but I guess it gives it that homemade feel. Third issue is a long way off but I only have a limited time access to screenprinting resources so I'm trying to print as much as I can!!!

BTW, I can't get the colours to scan in correctly. Maybe I need to get a new scanner. The green is a little darker- by a little bit and the red redder but a little.

Anyway, in this issue things get a little more scarier and weirder- so I decided to make a tribute to Suehiro Maruo while I was at it since I love his work so much (is it wrong to openly admit this?). This design was modeled after the cover of Maruo Jigoku. The people in this cover aren't as horrified as in the Maruo cover because they are horrifying in their own right. I think unlike eroguro nonsense, this is more eroguro innocence. Next cover I design I want to be more Taisho Era Elegance.

Third issue will be so awesome- Anyway, working on second issue contents right now and readying for release at end of October for Canzine. :D

There were a lot of mess-ups with many of the prints I made- but the paper cost me a lot so I need to include some of the less than perfect prints in the edition- I think I have edition of 82 or so- good enough for a comic first print run!

Whoa- I wrote so much. D:

edit:
I have some more detailed explanation and comments
here

You can now read the online version of OSCP at Smackjeeves.

you're killin' me over here on the other side of the internet- I've just gotta trade comics with you! Do you ever go to comic conventions and the like?

ah, there's a book in the library with some suehiro maruo illustrations, good stuff! i love your personal spin on that kind of style though <3
:iconromanshoubu:
I rarely go to comic conventions- I'm so bitter I missed SPX this year. :-( But next year I'm 80% sure I'm going to get a table or something at MOCCA-----------
:iconromanshoubu:
Thank you! I'm influenced a lot by Suehiro as well as Taisho and Showa-era print media. XD
:iconromanshoubu:
Aw man! I can't believe that!!! Your school library is so cool. His comics are really scary though so don't read them alone. *A* In fact, there is a lot of his stuff I don't dare to read---- eep!
:iconthepapermouse:
I was just re-reading your comic in anticipation of the 2nd issue and I have a question: what's Vivien's hair color? You've got it black on the cover here but I don't think I've ever seen you do another color picture of her so my curiosity is piqued...
:iconromanshoubu:
I just coloured it black here on the cover for aesthetic reasons- but I guess her hair is red? At least that's what I've been planning all along. I'm going to do a colour picture of her next when I have the time and see how it all works out...
